The second release in the “Prehistoric Life” Series from the Congo is dedicated to the Plesiosaur. The Premium Bullion Coin struck from one ounce of 99.99% pure silver features a depiction of a Plesiosaur in the sea. The inscriptions “PLESIOSAURUS”, “201 – 191 MIO YEARS BC” and the year of issue 2020 are also shown. The motive is framed by the title of the series “PREHISTORIC LIFE” as well as a timeline indicating the prehistoric epochs Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous. The reverse features the coat of arms of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Fossil remains of the Plesiosaurus were first discovered in the early 19th century by the fossil collector and paleontologist Mary Anning near the British Lyme Regis. Plesiosaurs populated the earth until the final phase of the Cretaceous and could reach a body length of up to 15 meters. The limited silver bullion coin is delivered in a protective capsule.
